The Pathway Home In today’s America, the power of wealth has created a new measure of social divisiveness, an upper-middle-class, feverishly chasing whatever is newer and different, rushing to suburbia, to escape and leave behind the more urban areas (and its under-schooled, unconnected and technically challenged residents,) to decay and lay dormant. Wages and welfare are not enough to solve the problems of economically vulnerable people who live from hand-to-mouth, have no ownership stake in wealth-producing assets, and have lost hope that they will ever share in the American Dream. This short-fall of discretionary income can only be answered by a direct attack on the root cause of poverty; “having little or no money, goods, or means of support.”
The needed correction must be a simpler journey; a good beginning that arrives at a better end; a clearer-cut entry to a pathway that everyone can follow and achieve their personal goals. Guided by only the good ideas from yesterday’s economic successes, HD has herein reassembled them into a resident ownership mechanism, that houses hands-on worker-owned retail and service cooperatives and new-business incubators, self-funding its own operational and venture capital needs.
Broadly owned by both its workers and local area residents; they will decide who, what, when, where, why, and how their own energies and resources will best serve themselves, and their local community. Together, we can restore lost jobs and start saving our America. If you will make and keep this pledge: On the first day, of every month, of every year, until the end of time I will not buy anything that is not “Made in the USA.”
